PFAS Testing

glass of waterPFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, is a growing environmental concern in Michigan and across the United States. PFAS has been found in many water sources including aquifers containing drinking water. Consuming PFAS can cause a number of health problems including cancer, thyroid disease, and increased levels of cholesterol. In addition to contaminating drinking water, PFAS can be released or spread through soil, air, and through other animals in the local environment such as fish and deer.

Sources of PFAS include substances used in manufacturing, oil processing, tanneries, and in household products such as Scotchgard, Teflon, and more. PFAS has been identified at 192 sites in Michigan, 49 of which are recognized contaminated sites as a result of PFAS levels over 70 parts per trillion. However, several developing research projects have suggested that a much lower threshold should be put in place because of the toxicity of the chemical.

If you are concerned about potential PFAS contamination on your property, Michigan Consulting & Environmental can help! Through our decades of experience in the environmental cleanup and consulting industry, we have created a network of environmental partners whose services are at our clients' disposal, including PFAS laboratory testing.
